Description
Pair of vintage ruby Moon and Star pattern glass ashtrays.
Beautiful jewel-like ashtrays are just the right size for those small smokes. Deep pattern is called Moon and Star. The pattern was popular since the turn of the 19th Century and produced by many U.S. glassmakers.
Both in excellent condition. Large cigar-sized ashtray is 8” round, 1.5” tall, small ashtray is 5¼” round, ¾” tall. Quality glass shines like a ruby. Large is like-new, smaller has some faint usage marks in the center bowl.
Moon and Star, originally named Palace by Adams & Co. in 1888. The mold was purchased by L.E. Smith in the 1930’s. L.G. Wright was a glass distributing company in West Virginia, U.S.A. which purchased this ashtray mold from L.E. Smith. They contracted the major glass houses in the area (Fenton, Viking, Paden City, Westmoreland) to produce their product. The set offered here is from L.E. Smith, circa 1950s.
