Rare Air France compass card airline ashtray by Lucien Boucher.
Made in the 1940s-1950s, this rarely seen ashtray features the artwork of Lucien Boucher encased inside the heavy glass ashtray. Lucien Boucher (1889-1971) was a French poster artist active in the 1950’s who in cartographic circles is known for the work he did for Air France in which he produced a few world maps and zodiac constellation maps. His work is bold, colorful, and very much sought after. Vintage posters of his work sell from $600.00 to multi-thousands of dollars depending on the condition.
Boucher’s artwork is perfectly preserved inside the glass which makes this fabulous airline relic ashtray even more fabulous. See images below for art details. The compass card is accented with gold foil.
This ashtray would have been in Air France first class passenger lounges and pilot lounges during the mid 20th century. Weighs 3.5 lbs. BIG cigar ashtray. Measure 6.5″ square and 1.75″ deep.
