Mid-century modernist Italian pottery fish ashtray.
Late 1940s to early 1950s fine Italian pottery. The fish was an icon of the 1940s-1960s modernism era. This exceptional relic was hand-made by a skilled potter. Beautiful black satin matte finish with brown and white eyes. The surface is smooth, and soft like satin.
In like-new condition with very little bottom-wear. Rare to find such a nice example.
Label has worn off and no writing is visible. Maker unknown, but surely from a Bitossi or Gambone like quality maker.
Measures 6″ long, 3.5″ tall and 4.5″ wide. Will rest 3 cigarette size or smaller smokes. Long and deep bowl keeps the mess in.
Measures 3.5″ wide, 1.75″ tall. Rims slant inward over deep well, helps keep the debris contained. Each weigh 1/4 lb.
