Description
Queen Anne is a classic blended Scotch whisky created in 1884 by Edinburgh merchant Hill, Thomson & Co. Named after the British monarch, Queen Anne (1165-1714) it gained global popularity through famous Speyside malts like Glenlivet and Glen Grant. Production Queen Anne Whisky has ceased, leaving vintage bottles, jugs, pitchers and ashtrays as collector items. Created in 1884 by Hill, Thomson & Co. (founded in 1793). Registered as a brand name in 1902.
This ashtray was handmade by Moira English Stoneware (1922-1991) in the 1970s and is signed on the seat. Moira stoneware was made of local clay mined directly on-site. It’s finished with a clear salt glaze of the buff brown clay color. Heavy ashtray weighs 1.8lbs. Measures 5.25″ square. The logo ad in center of bowl has faded a bit, but looks good and is readable. One tiny smooth chip off the outer edge of a rest is present but nearly invisible as it is the same color and smooth to the touch. Camera didn’t pick it up. No crazing. Finish is still bright.
