Description
Skrdlovice High-end art glass cigar-sized ashtray made in Mid-20th Century Czech Republic.
Produced by the Skrdlovice glassworks, also known as Beranek glassworks, founded by Emanuel Beranek and his three brothers in 1940. Emanuel was designer, joined by his two sons in the 1950’s, Jan Beranek and Jindrich Beranek. They produced stunningly beautiful glass objects with a natural flow, like frozen waves. The Beranek factory closed in 2008.
In near neon yellow and colorless crystal Sommerso. Blown and formed by hand. Flowing decor was pulled from the gather, not applied. Intentional internal bubbles. Polished flat seat ring.
Stunning cigar bowl features four 1½ inch long, ¾ inch wide hand-formed cradle rests. Can accommodate large cigars to smaller smokes, incense sticks, and pipes.
“Sommerso: This technique requires a blown work in thick glass to be immersed in a pot containing transparent glass of a different color and of equal thickness overlaying thick transparent glass to obtain particular chromatic effects.”
Hefty, weighs 3 pounds. Measures 6½ inches at widest and 3 inches tall. In excellent condition with normal bottom wear showing on the polished base ring.
