Mod decor glass clamshell ashtray designed by Fratelli Toso to be an ashtray or vase.
Has TWO polished flat bases. It can sit up as a vase or catch-all, or it can sit on the side and become an ashtray complete with two rests. Designers of the Mid-20th Century often created multiple use objects.
Made in the late 1950’s to early 1960’s in Italy, designed by master Fratelli Toso. No maker’s label, but the design is documented. This delightful form was produced in many color combinations.
This clamshell ashtray vase was made by hand in triple cased glass; first layer is cherry red, second is white, and the final layer is clear. This color combination is great because it gives it a ‘Hot Lips’ look.
In excellent, like-new, condition.
Beautiful, interesting and useful retro mod decor glass form. Measures 7¼” long, 3¾” wide and 4½” tall. Weighs 2 lbs.
