Description
Luxurious cigar ashtray from Mid-20th Century Italy.
Stunning copper laden cigar ashtray by one of the great vintage Murano art glass makers. It’s either a Barbini or Toso creation.
Made by hand in Lattimo (opaque white) covered with a generous layer of copper aventurine and encased in crystal. Sometimes referred to in the U.S. as ‘Goldstone glass’ with a rich gold glittering effect. The Italians, who discovered this decor method, called it ‘Avventurina’.
Looks like a very large shiny reddish-brown bean, a favored form of the mid-century modernists.
In excellent condition. Big luxurious cigar ashtray weighs 2½ pounds. Measures 6½” long, 5″ wide and 2½” tall. Two hand-tooled rests are ‘V’ shaped to accommodate any size smoke, even small smokes.
Multiple uses. Nice vessel for incense and candles too (remove any metal parts, like wick holders, from modern candles before using in vintage glass). Looks beautiful as a flower or foliage vase too.
Circa 1940’s to 1960’s. Exceptional vintage Murano art glass ashtray by an exceptional Italian artist. Unsigned.
