Description
Mod Higgins ashtray in their Sunset decor.
In the 1940s and 1950s, creative glass makers who worked in their own studios were experimenting with new ways to shape and decorate glass. This is when Higgins Glass (Michael Higgins and his wife, Frances) began making fused glass using an old method but with new and colorful mod designs.
The design on this art ashtray is called “Sunset” and was created by Frances Higgins. Signed ‘higgins’ in lower case gold enamel, indicating this art ashtray was made as part of the ‘higginsware’ line between 1957 and 1964.
This Higgins Sunset ashtray appears unused, in excellent condition. Big ashtray measures 10″ at widest, 9″ long and 1½” deep. The graphic is inside the glass and permanent, it does not wear. The ash-receiving surface is smooth with valleys, helpful in resting and extinquishing. Has three 2″ long, 1½” wide rests. Speckled with gold flecks througout. Stands on 3 peaked feet.
The ultimate in cigar art ashtrays made over 50 years ago by the creators of Higgins Glass who were beyond their time and are now timeless.
