German Pottery Hunting Festival Spinning Ashtray

Self-cleaning ashtray spins away the debris into the deep wide bowl.

Made in Germany by ‘Gerzit’, a ceramic factory founded by Peter Gerz in 1830. The stamp on the base dates it from 1960 through 1990 when the original company closed down. Another stamp in black has unrecognizable words and the number 18. It might refer to gold trim band above the artwork.

This ashtray features Wurzburg Festung (festival) in Germany, see image 2 below. It also has a perky elk and a pipe smoking hunter with a rifle. The decor is raised and hand-painted. The pottery decor style is called ‘lusterware’, made famous by German potters.

Measures 5″ tall and 5″ at widest.

Items shown in the Big Ashtray Museum are not for sale. Big Ashtray offers a large selection of antique, vintage and retro art ashtrays, plus modern-made ashtrays, for sale in the Big Ashtray shop. Click here to view available items…
