Description
Multi-purpose Buenilum tray by Frederic Buehner-Warner. Made in the mid 1930s.
Buehner studied under Bruno Paul at the Deutscher Werkbund Germany (German Work Federation). The DWG, founded in Munich 1907, was an association of architects and designers and was an important precursor to the Bauhaus school. Buehner emigrated to the United States in 1929.
In 1933 he registered an aluminum alloy called Buenilum. This Buenilum dish is marked with his initials. The stylized clip in the center is off the scale modern for the 1930s, way ahead of its time. The dish is multi-use and can be a cigar or smaller smoke ashtray. The clip can be widened or condensed with slight pressure.
Measures 6 3/4″ round, 1″ tall.
