Description
Full-size vintage bar spittoon of copper and brass.
The copper section is marked on front and back with ‘The Brass Ass of Cripple Creek’ encircling a donkey’s ass.
Having grown up in Colorado near Cripple Creek, my family visited the old gold mining town when it was not a gambling town. Back then (1970s) it had lots of little gift shops on the main street, and one was called ‘The Brass Ass’. Today the old Brass Ass gift shop building houses the Brass Ass Casino. The Brass Ass Casino does not sell spittoons, so we are assuming this came from the 1970s Brass Ass gift shop.
It’s been kicked around a bit. Spittoons were originally designed to sit near the cowboy’s boot on the floor at the old bars so they could just lean over and spit in it. Nice eh? In modern days they are usually just used for decor.
Numerous dents and some atmosphere spotting. Both brass and copper have age patina. Handy as the patio party ashtray, great for a movie or play prop, perfect for Western decor, can be used as a planter…or you can keep it at your feet and spit in it.
Measures 10″ tall, 10″ at widest, with a girth of 28″. The seat is filled with sand. If you kick it over…it will pop back upright.
Weighs 2½” lbs.
