Cabin ashtray from the favored airline of the Rat Pack Las Vegas
This rare curiosity is in excellent, perhaps unused, condition.
Bonanza Airlines began service in 1945 and soon boasted they flew the “First all jet-powered airline in America”. The airliner illustrated on this ashtray is Douglas Co.’s DC-9 Funjet. This dates the ashtray to the early 1960s.
BAS located its home base at the Sky Haven Airfield, now known as the North Las Vegas Air Terminal, and began operating with just one single-engine, four-seat Cessna. The company offered charter flights to several small Nevada towns but needed a place to promote its product. It struck a deal with the El Rancho Vegas Hotel and Casino to set up a ticket counter in the lobby. Famous Las Vegas personalities favored Bonanza airline, most notably the members of the rat pack and Elvis Presley.
In 1967, a merger with West Coast and Pacific Airlines created Air West, Inc. The Bonanza name was retired. Made by Consolidated Molded Products Corporation in America. Thick, sturdy, hard composite material. Measures 8.5″ long, 4″ wide. Six large rests will accommodate cigars.
