Description
Heavy cut crystal ashtray from the Bohemian regions circa 1930 – 1940.
This vintage cut crystal ashtray weighs 2.10 lbs. Substantial chunk of high quality crystal from the former Czechoslovakia region.
It was cut and polished by hand. Produced in the late 1920’s to mid 1930’s. This form was designed by Heinrich Hoffmann, a German (Czech) mold-maker and proprietor of a bead shop in Paris in the 1920’s. While in Paris, Hoffmann met a gentlemen named Rene Lalique (today Lalique’s art glass sells at the extreme high-end). Hoffmann’s association with Lalique influenced his jewel-like crystal forms and other glass works.
There are two layers of glass. The colorless crystal was layered with a dark golden amber. The hand-cut swan and fauna decor was cut through the golden amber layer to reveal the colorless layer.
Five 1″ long, 1/2 wide cradle rests with beveled edges. Measures 6″ wide, 1.5″ deep and weighs nearly 2.10 lbs. In near perfect condition with light scratching on the amber casing that can be seen only when held to light. There is a small chigger on one of the sharp diamond corners.
Lovely, high quality Bohemian cut crystal ashtray handmade in the former Czechoslovakia over 60 years ago. Glowing amber color goes great with all decor color schemes. The color lightens and darkens according to the amount of light.
Accommodates cigars, cigarettes and smaller smokes.
