Stunning Blenko Art Glass ice-like ashtray made in 1959-1970.
Organic textures and themes were very during the Mid-20th Century, originating from the Scandinavian countries where famous artists reflected nature in their designs.
Glass made during wartime used Manganese instead of lead, due to lead shortages. This tradition carried on with some glass houses, especially those in Italy until the mid 1950’s. This colorless glass has manganese in the recipe. Manganese tests at light neon green or light neon yellow under black-light.
Back in the days when almost everyone smoked, ashtrays were made to double for other uses. This bowl is perfect with the long thick ledge and deep well for cigars, cigarettes, smaller smokes, candles, incense, change bowl, flower float, and on and on.
