Description
This cigar ashtray was made by Blenko Art Glass. It is their infamous ‘508’ ashtray form which was designed in the early 1950’s and made throughout the following years. The cigar ashtray is in a color called Desert Green which was introduced in the 1990’s. We have not seen the 508 ashtray in Desert Green in any of the Blenko archive catalogs. But it is a verifiable Blenko form and color.
In the 1990’s ashtrays, including cigar ashtrays, were rapidly going out of style…and out of production. This alluring ashtray was one of the last of its kind. Hand-made in an American glass studio called Blenko Art Glass, also one of the last of its kind.
It’s big and heavy as a Blenko should be. Wonderful thick walled furnace heated vintage glass. The pontil scar was polished to a half moon and the base has a polished sitting ring. The pontil is inverted, protrudes to a soft bump on the interior and serves as a handy ash knocker in the center of the well. It has many unintentional bubbles as most Blenko glass objects do. The condition is good, no chips or cracks. It does have light use scratching in the well basin, and medium bottom wear on the seat. Priced accordingly.
Measures 7″ round, 2 1/2″ tall and weighs 2 1/2 lbs. Would look stunning in your back yard.
