Rare Holmegaard Glass atomic spaceship ashtray in smoke blue.
Signed by the infamous Danish glass artist Per Lutken (also spelled Per Luetken). Signature is hand-etched “Holmegaard” with Lutken’s mark below it. Includes the acid-etched anchor and rope found on Demark’s Naval flags (flag shown in image 5).
We’ve encountered this Holmegaard Per Lutken ashtray form only twice in over 20 years of searching for fabulous ashtrays. We have not found it in Holmegaard reference books. That makes it rare.
Measures 6½” round, 2¼” tall and weighs 1¼ pounds. Thick glass with polished rests and base ring. Glass is brilliant, no water damage. Some usuage marks inside ash well surface. No chips or cracks. Aged bottom-wear caused by years and years of surface contact on polished rim base. In very good condition.
Normally the hand-etched Holmegaard signature includes a date or a date code. There is no reference to a date on this spaceship ashtray. We can assume the design hails from the Atomic Age. Estimated circa 1950 to 1960.
Mid-Century modern form and function disc design traps the smoking debris within the vessel. Wind or movement can’t blow the mess about. Provides two level cut and polished ¾” cradle rests. Can accommodate all sizes of smokes.
