The mark is one of the standard marks of Pfaltzgraff of York, PA, USA. Founded in 1811. Before their closure in 2005, they were one of the oldest and longest family run businesses in the US. Pfaltzgraff mark impressed on the seat.
Awesome browns and blues glaze in like-new condition. Features two wire ring rests, also in like-new condition. Also offers four deep rests on each corner of the wire rings for resting fat smokes like cigars. On the rim there are four rectangles of incised ridges, perfect for incense sticks and pipe resting.
Wire ring rests are great because they can hold many smokes, and hold them securely. Great feature. Good for pipe resting too. Well designed for its purpose!
The only sign of age is on it’s un-glazed signed base, showing a few light spots, but no chips. It is in excellent condition, a real beauty. Circa estimated 1950’s to 1970’s.
Big ashtray measures 10″ square, 1½” deep.
