Description
Organic form ashtray hand-made by Blenko Art Glass.
Blenko’s 6023 ashtray Mid-20th Century organic form looks like a chunk of ice. Designed in 1960. Hand-made in the West Virginia, U.S.A. by the infamous Blenko Art Glass.
Hefty ashtray weighs 2 lbs. Measures 7″ x 6″ and 1½” tall. Has three little peg feet which allow the seat of the ashtray to rise above the surface. The legs are a great feature, they keep the heavy glass object above the surface. It ovoids bottom wear caused by contact with the surface over the years.
Blenko Art Glass used Manganese instead of lead during the early Mid-20th Century. The mineral was used to replace lead during the great wars and many glass makers, especially in Italy, continued to use it into the late 1960’s. Manganese causes the colorless glass to glow a faint yellowish green under black-light (image 5).
Two long cradle rests accommodate cigars and smaller smokes. Doubles as a candle holder and incense burner. In excellent condition. Circa 1960 to 1970.
