Retro Modern Midas ashtray designed by the infamous Georges Briard for Hyalyn, a mid-century art porcelain maker in the U.S. Decorated with real 22k gold leaf decor.
Georges Briard was the fabulous designer for the stars in the 1940’s to 1950’s. The Briard signature is shown in the upper left of the gold decor in image 5. Hyalyn Pottery was established in 1947 and closed in 1996.
The base of the ashtray is covered with cork and signed “Georges Briard, Midas, Hyalyn U.S.A., B26″. The cork on the base has some black markings and shows the only wear on this ashtray. The Terra Cotta finish and gold decor are in excellent condition. This ashtray was rarely used, if ever.
Measures 7½” square and 1¼ tall. Offers 12 cradle rests and large ledge for resting any kind of smoke. Excellent condition. Circa 1950’s.
