Vintage pottery figurine ashtray couple made in Japan approximately 60 years ago.
Both have an blue oval sticker on the base marked ‘Japan’. After WWII, Japan was a major exporter of decorative goods, mostly hand-made, until the 1980s. Circa estimated late 1950s – 1960s.
There is a small hole on the top of each head. A length of twine can be inserted in the hole and knotted from the inside to make these into hanging ashtrays. Or they can sit on any surface. The smoke rolls out of their eyes. Measure 5½” tall, 4″ wide, and 2½” thick. Darling couple. Rare find.
