Description
Bertil Vallien was a freelance designer for the glass works Boda-Åfors and Kosta-Boda, working form his own studio in Åfors, Sweden 1963. This four pound ashtray was made by hand in the 1960’s.
Mr. Vallien is one of the founding fathers of the mid 20th century studio glass movement. His achievements are documented. Today, he teaches young glass artists at the Pilchuck School in Oregon along with Dale Chihuly and other notable maestros.
Made with 4 lbs of solid vintage glass, tinted slightly blue/green. Appears colorless in most lighting. Items resembling ice were a staple of the Swedish glass artists of the time…and still are today. This ashtray is unsigned and was made to Mr. Vallien’s design. We have owned a smaller version which was etched on the base; “Boda Afors BV 2023 B. Vallien”. The signature was followed by an open armed stick man enclosed in a circle. This ashtray is unsigned, made for export.
Measures 5″ square and 2″ tall, Weighs 4 lbs. Four 5/8″ wide rests and deep 4.25″ round bowl.
