Description
Beautiful large geode bowl cigar ashtray made in 1950s Italy.
Thick walled dark cranberry glass encased in a light wheat, almost colorless glass with one big cigar rest. The rest cradles and floats the cigar over a 2½” deep bowl. Made for fine cigars. Great for smaller smokes and incense too. Weighs 5 lbs. Hefty, can’t get knocked around. Measures 8.25″ round, 2.75″ tall.
Hand-worked mid-century art glass. To achieve the pink color, real gold was used in the glass recipe. The colorless glass has a Manganese content (see image 5). Manganese was used to replace lead during the World Wars and glass houses from Italy continued to use it through the 1950s. Manganese caused the colorless glass to glow a pale greenish yellow when lit with black light.
