Description
Curious little Israel military pocket ashtray depicting a cloaked man on a camel with a huge saber.
There are letters beneath the camel rider but we have no idea what the letters are, or of the meaning. Impressed on the seat is ‘Made in Israel’. We are guessing that it is a military ashtray designed to pull out of a bag or pocket to have a smoke in the trench or tent.
It’s made of brass and has some bronze color enhancement on the rests and exterior. The black areas are carbon deposits from tobacco (ie nicotine / tar). Repeated cleaning could probably remove it, but it seems to have bonded with the metal. We’ve cleaned it with oil soap…it had much more encrusted tar when found.
Measures 3″ x 2″ square. Age unknown. It looks very old. The camel riding, saber bearing military man is certainly a very old motif. The meaning of letters below the rider is the key to it’s age.
