Description
Iconic Mid-Century Modern Fish Pottery Ashtray
Classic Mid-century modern fish ashtray with inner bone-like rests. Your smoke rests on the ledge, is secured by the white rests and the smoke drifts out the fish mouth.
Beautiful brown, dark maroon and creamy tan glaze is high gloss and plays havoc with the camera lighting. The glaze is perfect, there is no white haze as shown in images.
Made of red clay, called “red-ware’ in the potter’s world. This fish has a tiny chip off it’s fin. You can see it on the left fin in image 1. It is an old smooth chip with a color repair. The chip was tinted so it is less visible.
Measures 6.5″ long, 3″ wide and 6” tall. No maker’s mark. This could indicate it was made in the 1940’s before the end of WWII. Wonderful design so popular in the Mid-20th Century.
